Morale
Morale refers to how happy the settlement population is in After Inc. It is represented by an emoticon.
Morale is a percentage value (represented internally by decimals). The default percentage depends on the chosen difficulty.
Morale significantly affects settlement population growth. When Morale becomes negative (or below -10% in casual difficulty), the player starts to lose Authority due to Low Morale, and the abandonment process starts to happen.
If the player resolves factors that cause morale to decrease, a "Historical" penalty will apply (referring to historical losses of morale), which slows down the increase of morale.
When choosing inspire in the Settlement Losing Hope situation, the settlement will gain +8 authority, but at a cost of starting losing authority when current morale at 20% or lower (instead of 0%).
Factors affecting Morale[edit | edit source]
Morale can be influenced by the following:
- Insufficient resources (shortage of resources required for services)
- Inadequate services
- Poor decisions regarding situations or negative consequences from choices
- Delayed responses to bad situations
- Negative Stamina (which can occur when using the Personal Trainer leader or during specific decisions)
- Lack of adequate housing (which can occur when playing as the Slumlord leader)
- Exploration near Settlement (which can occur when playing as the Hermit leader)
- Historical losses in Morale (which improve over time)
- Abandonment (settlers leaving)
- Presence of Zombies
- Isolated areas
