Goals

Goals are tasks that the settlement needs to achieve in order to make progress on a certain level in After Inc. Once a goal is finished, a pop-up bubble will appear. Clicking it will proceed to the next goal.

Most goals are time-constrained: if you do not achieve one after a period of time, you will slowly start to lose Authority due to settler impatience. Stable goals don't suffer this issue though, instead they increase the goal timer and temporary stops the timer until the stable goal is complete. Goal patience can be seen by clicking on the information button on the settlement area.

Difficulty settings affect goal patience: in Brutal, goal patience is reduced by -44%, while in Mega Brutal, goal patience is reduced by -53%. In Casual, goal patience automatically becomes stable when exceeding the timer.

If the goal is related to collecting/maintaining a specific resource, the said resource will be temporary unlocked even if player hasn't reached the technology level to unlock the resource. Alongside that, the settlement will keep producing said resource even if its storage is currently full. The increasing storage capacity goal will always unlock the option to build additional storage.

When settlement is attacked by zombies or encounter drought season, the current goal timer will temporary stop.

In the Beyond the Bunkers expansion, the goals are randomly selected from the list of all common goals. The higher the settler ambition, the harder the goals will be.

When the danger level is 0 in the current expedition, and the player is in Mega Brutal difficulty, authority loss from impatience significantly increases (depending on what level on Mega Brutal the player has chosen).
