Fuel
Fuel is a primary resource required for your settlement in After Inc.. Settlers can't consume fuel to negative number.
Production[edit | edit source]
Currently, there are 3 ways of producing Fuel (including scavenging)
Firewood Splitter[edit | edit source]
The Firewood Splitter is able to produce 1.2 Fuel monthly. To produce Fuel, 0.24 units of Wood are required. If there is not enough Wood in the Storage, the Fuel production will not start. This satisfies 1.11 Settlers.
Charcoal Pit[edit | edit source]
The Charcoal Pit is an unlockable upgrade from completing levels. Upon researching Technology 3 (or gain from random Artifacts), the Pit is able to produce 1.56 Fuel monthly. All Firewood Splitters immediately become Charcoal Pits.
Consumption[edit | edit source]
Each Fighter outside of any claimed area consumes 0.6 units of Fuel monthly, during Winter this is doubled.
Settlers may also start consuming ~0.06 Fuel Monthly (per Settler). This amount is slightly randomised and is used for "cooking" and "keeping themselves warm" (per in-game explanation)
Some Services also consume Fuel:
A Makeshift Fire Pit consumes 0.72 units of Fuel, and a Fire Pit consumes 1.44 units of Fuel monthly. But the Fire Pit is 20% more efficient than the Makeshift Fire Pits, allowing it to serve 20% more Settlers, for the same amount of Fuel consumed daily. During Winter, each Settler satisfied by a Fire Pit causes it to consume approximately an additional ~2.16 Fuel.
A Small Marketplace consumes 0.36 units of Fuel monthly.
A Barrack consumes 0.24 units of Fuel monthly.
Running out of Fuel[edit | edit source]
Running out of Fuel can either be a negligible effect or a game ending one.
During warm months, the effectiveness of the Fire Pit is the same as any other service - you can afford to not have fuel. But during Winter, the penalty for not providing the Warmth service is high. This means running out of Fuel during Winter will significantly lower Morale, as if a lot of Services had their production paused. It is recommended to either prepare a large enough stockpile of Fuel for Winter or to produce enough Fuel that the consumption does not exceed production. Scavenging can also be used as a temporary means of providing Fuel.
