Food is a primary resource required for your settlement in After Inc.

Production[edit | edit source]

There are four ways of producing Food (including scavenging).

Crop Farms[edit | edit source]

Crop Farms can be made by either Grain, Vegetables or Fruit. Each Crop Farm produces 2.25 units of Food monthly and satisfies 2.38 Settlers. Crop Farms do not produce anything during Winter.

Building crop farms costs 1 stamina. The number of farms you can build within an area is determined by the settlement's technology level. For every additional Crop Farm, the cost increases by one stamina.

Meat Ranches[edit | edit source]

Meat Ranches can be butchered from hunted animals, which includes Deer, Sheep and Cattle. Each Meat Ranch produces 1.5 units of food monthly and satisfies 1.58 settlers. Unlike Crop Farms, Meat Ranches produce Food even in Winter.

The restrictions and cost of building Meat Ranches escalate the same way as Crop Farms.

Pigeon Coops[edit | edit source]

The Pigeon Coops are an unlockable reward from completing levels. At the start of the game, settlers will start foraging for pigeons, which grants 0.095 units of Food monthly per Settler.

Consumption[edit | edit source]

The below table lists the consumption of each item in the game.

Name Monthly consumption
Settler 0.95
Fighter (outside of claimed areas)
Barracks
Makeshift Kitchen 0.78
Small Tavern 0.85
Small Training Grounds
Brewery
Small Marketplace 0.2835

Running out of Food[edit | edit source]

Running out of Food can have a bad effect on your settlement, especially in the later stages of the game.

Initially, Food can be somewhat ignored, especially if you have the Pigeon Coops reward, as the morale drop from lack of Food can be covered up with Services (like Fire Pits or Toilets) But as you increase the settlement population, there are more and more services that require Food as part of their upkeep. This means that Morale drops much by a hefty amount once a lot of services stop working (especially Kitchens) due to a lack of food, so keep a close eye on your Food stockpile once you start growing your Settlement.
